About the Ingredient
What Fibroin Extract (BF-7®) Is
Fibroin Extract (BF-7®) is a purified silk fibroin peptide powder made from the cocoon of the silkworm, Bombyx mori.
A silk thread is built from two proteins — fibroin, the structural core of the fibre, and sericin, the gummy outer layer that binds it. Only fibroin is used here. On its own it is a large, insoluble structural protein: the very property that makes silk strong makes it useless as a nutrient. What remains once the sericin is removed and the fibroin is broken down into short peptides small enough to be absorbed is Fibroin Extract (BF-7®).
Why the process matters
The label “silk peptide” tells you very little. Two powders can carry that name and not be the same ingredient.
What a material does in the body is decided by how it was made — which fraction of the fibre is kept, how far the protein chain is cut, and how consistently that is reproduced from batch to batch. This is why national regulators review a named ingredient made by a named process, and never the category as a whole, before any statement about efficacy may be attached to it.
The ingredient was developed through national research projects in Korea beginning in 2000, in which Famenity and its affiliate Biogrand took part. It has been studied in double-blind, placebo-controlled human trials at 200–400 mg per day across five age groups — children, high-school students, university students, adults and older adults.

New Dietary Ingredient Notification No. 1041
Famenity’s silk fibroin peptide ingredient was submitted to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as a new dietary ingredient and accepted for filing on June 6, 2017. Silk fibroin peptide was not consumed as a food in the United States before 1994, so it is a new dietary ingredient rather than a grandfathered one.
“You intend to market the new dietary ingredient in your dietary supplement under the trade name, ‘BF-7®.’”
A notification covers the ingredient described in it — that manufacturer, that process, those specifications. It does not extend to a similar ingredient made by another company.

Individually Recognized Functional Ingredient No. 2009-46
The ingredient is recognized by Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety as an individually recognized functional ingredient for memory support.
Recognized designation: 피브로인추출물 (BF-7®)
Extract of fibroin (BF-7®)
An individually recognized functional ingredient may be used only by the party that obtained the recognition (Health Functional Foods Act, Article 15(2)). The party that obtained recognition for Extract of fibroin is Famenity. The recognition does not extend to silk peptides generally.

Selected Clinical Results
Activation of Brain, Concentration
fMRI
BF-7® enhances neuronal network connectivity and drives broader, more efficient brain activation (fMRI).
P300 (Brain Wave)
P300 recordings showed reduced amplitude with higher task accuracy after BF-7® — the same task performed more efficiently, with less tension.

Brain Protection

Preventing Ischemic Damage
Animal study. Blocking a brain artery caused ischemic damage in rats. BF-7® markedly reduced the damaged area, shown by TTC-stained brain slices.
